About Agumbe

Agumbe gets some of the heaviest rainfall in peninsular India, and it shows: canopy so dense the light goes green, streams every few hundred metres, and a research station dedicated to the king cobra. The sunset point at the top of the Agumbe ghat is the classic stop, looking west over unbroken forest to the coastal plain. It is a small village, so trips here are about slow mornings, waterfall walks to Barkana or Onake Abbi, and the ghat road's fourteen hairpins. **Getting there.** Overnight run from Bengaluru via Shivamogga or Tirthahalli (7–8 hours); usually clubbed with Kundadri or Sringeri. **Where to stay.** Village homestays in Agumbe and Tirthahalli — simple rooms, home-cooked Malenadu food.

Best time to visit

October to February for walkable trails; monsoon visits are spectacular but leech-heavy and often washed out.
