Dandeli is the adventure-sports capital of coastal Karnataka: Grade II–III rapids on the Kali river, kayaking, zorbing and a wildlife sanctuary that is one of the best places in India to see the Malabar pied hornbill. Most departures combine it with Gokarna — rafting and jungle camp one day, beach the next — which is why it shows up on so many three-day itineraries out of Bengaluru and Hyderabad. **Getting there.** Overnight drive or bus from Bengaluru via Hubballi (8–9 hours). Hyderabad groups reach it in about 10 hours; it is often clubbed with Gokarna. **Where to stay.** Riverside tented camps and jungle resorts along the Kali near Ganeshgudi and Dandeli town.
