About Kodachadri

Kodachadri is the highest peak in Shivamogga district and a declared natural heritage site — a green ridge that drops into the Mookambika reserve forest on one side and looks out to the Arabian Sea haze on the other. The good route climbs past Hidlumane falls, scrambling up wet rock beside the water before opening onto grassland and the Sarvajna Peetha shrine at the top. Jeeps run to the summit on a rough track, which most groups use for the descent. **Getting there.** Overnight bus or tempo traveller from Bengaluru to Kollur or Nittur (9–10 hours), then jeeps to the Hidlumane trailhead. **Where to stay.** Homestays at Nittur, Kattinahole and Kollur; some groups camp near the summit shrine.
