About Kudremukh

Kudremukh means 'horse face', for the profile the peak cuts against the sky. The trek is 18–20 km return through shola forest, stream crossings and open grassland ridges that roll away in every direction — a genuine full-day walk rather than a viewpoint stroll. Forest department permits and an assigned guide are mandatory, which is why almost everyone does this one with an organiser. Groups leave Bengaluru on Friday night, trek Saturday, and drive back Sunday via Kalasa or Horanadu. **Getting there.** Overnight tempo traveller from Bengaluru to Samse or Kalasa (7–8 hours), then a jeep to the forest checkpost at Mullodi. **Where to stay.** Homestays at Mullodi and Samse, mostly basic dorm-style rooms used as trek base camps.
