Vagamon sits at 1,100 m on the Kottayam–Idukki border, and its landscape is unusual for Kerala: bare, rolling meadows instead of forest, with a planted pine forest on one flank and tea slopes on the other. That open grassland is why it has become the state's paragliding hub, and why it photographs like nowhere else in the Ghats. It is still relatively uncrowded compared to Munnar, and the meadows are made for camping. **Getting there.** About 530 km from Bengaluru (10–11 hours overnight) via Salem and Kottayam; roughly 250 km from Coimbatore. **Where to stay.** Meadow-side campsites and small resorts around Kolahalamedu and Vagamon town.
September to May; the meadows are greenest right after the monsoon in September and October.
